A global auto parts, oil and gas pump, and technology manufacturer needed external validation for their internal assessment program and aid in determining compliance gaps in several countries around the world. The client also needed support in applying lean principles to their EHS protocols and EHS management system to focus on current operations.
Solution
Antea Group developed a globally applicable compliance audit protocol that included the client's internal technical manual used throughout their global operations.
Antea Group implemented a consistent process for in-country auditors, which included:
Soliciting, collecting, and reviewing pre-audit information
Participating in pre-audit conference calls with the audited site and our Antea Group audit team
Conducting on-site audits in accordance with the established process, including opening and closing meetings
Antea Group provided quality control and review of all audit materials to ensure that each finding had a clear description of the country-specific legal requirement, a detailed description of the findings, and finally a corrective action that addressed the immediate need and the long-term solution to prevent repeat findings. Audit corrective actions were also managed within a web-based EHS management software tool, allowing facility contacts direct access to build and manage their corrective actions plans while maintaining visibility and oversight by corporate EHS.
Result
The client used our audit information to close the gaps between their internal audits and country-specific EHS requirements.
Their new and updated EHS management system also allows them to complete internal compliance audits and third-party audits more quickly with a stronger focus on operations. The client has also made use of other EHS data management tool capabilities to develop an EHS inventory that allows corporate managers to better understand the EHS burden that facilities are managing.
Our review of data trends led to the client expanding the scope of their data management system to incorporate sustainability metrics, incident and injury reporting, a compliance calendar, and Behavior Based Safety (BBS) observations. These new insights allow the client to better assess compliance and key business metrics and performance indicators in their monthly corporate leadership meetings.
